Juneteenth Walk for Freedom

Did you know we’re in the very neighborhood where Juneteenth gained national momentum, largely thanks to the incredible work of Opal Lee? It's a powerful part of our local story. Now a national holiday, Juneteenth celebrates the freedom gained when slavery was abolished all across the country.

On Thursday, June 19th, Dr. Opal Lee will complete her annual 2.5-mile walk to recognize the 2.5 years it took for the news and enforcement of freedom to reach the enslaved people in Texas.

As a church, partnering in our neighborhood isn’t just a good idea—it’s a gospel calling. Jesus didn’t stay distant; He moved into the neighborhood, and we’re called to do the same. Our faith becomes visible—not just in words, but in action.

There are two ways we are partnering. You can sign up to do the 2.5 mile walk or be a spectator and help us hand out waters.
